new favourites

hi.
i'm back.

i finally had some things that i actually wanted to blog about. sorry it's been so long comin', but the past month has been very...emotional. i graduated from college. i started working full time (at a job that is so completely unrelated to my degree that it's disgusting.) and lots of other things that are...difficult.

anyways, earlier this week, whit asked me to post pictures of my new glasses ASAP. well, this isn't quite as soon as she probably wanted, but i thought i'd share some other things that are currently on my "new favourites" list. and yes, i like spelling favourite with a u.

my new favourite...

color:
mint/jadeite/sea foam green. it's to die for. i'm currently obsessed.

song/singer:
lisa mitchell singing coin laundry.
other favorites: neopolitan dreams and clean white love. i'm in love.

glasses and hairdo:
here they are whit. i got them online from coastal contacts. for $30. yes oh yes.
and lately i have been wearing my hair in a bun on top of my head. with my new fringe and new glasses, i feel very indie chic. and kinda like a ballerina.
but whatever.

illustrator:
julia denos. basically i want to be her. in a hilary kind of way. maybe someday.

and there you have it. i love finding new things to love.

oh ps, just in case you were wondering, i give up on {ish} titles. they were fun, but kind of a hassle. so yeah.

i j{ush}t do my thing*

holy schnitzel, people! it's practically almost april! do you realize what that means?! that i GRADUATE in about a month!! celebrations forthcoming...

in other quite relevant news, i've got homework on the brain. but this homework is pretty rad. for my next assignment in illustration 3 we are creating portraits/caricatures. and who did i choose to portray? AUDREY HEPBURN. yes, the one and only. i'm pretty excited.

so i've been doing loads of research, gathering photo reference, admiring her life, beauty, grace, etc. and i've found some pretty awesome things that i thought i'd share. and perhaps, when all is said and done, i'll share MY finished portrait.

this is my favorite photo of audrey. mostly because of the color. i'm kinda obsessed with pink and aqua at the moment. just ask my fellow artist friend, cat. seriously.
this is my favorite caricature of audrey. i found it at chris wahl art. he's pretty amazing. i'm pretty much in love with audrey's eyebrows and this piece really emphasizes them. fantastic.

and lastly, my new favorite illustrator, julia denos, illustrated this lovely new book by margaret cardillo. this book is my favorite. and lucky me, my aunt bought it for me! she is the best. anyone who truly loves audrey should own this book. it's a children's book about audrey's life. i lurve it. yes, lurve.

well, that is audrey. and yes, okay, i'll post my version. and yes, eventually i will post some of my other art. it's kind of terrifying though. luckily only six people read this blog. so i guess i have nothing to fear, right?

that is the que{ish}ton

growing out one's hair is an impossible task.
because everyday i am bombarded with sudden urges to do this:

but the goal is to get to this:
what's a girl to do?
sigh.
thanks for letting me vent.

impos{ish}ible to choose just one!

the next tag question:

"if you could have anyone (dead or alive) paint or photograph a portrait of you,
who would it be and why?"

umm, let's be honest. i'm going to have to answer this a couple of times. as in, i have multiple portrait wishes. so here goes...

rodney smith (alive)
because it would be whimsical, artistic, and gorgeous.

van gogh (dead)
because it would have fantastic brushstrokes and fabulous color and it would just look rad.

robert barrett (alive)
because he truly captures the essence of people. he is all about simplicity. oh, and the shadows! the fantastic flat shadows. plus, he is just the nicest man.

tuesday mourning (alive)
because i love pencil drawings. and her line quality is to die for. plus, how cute would i look with a pink nose and rosy cheeks?

the fancy creams and lo{ish}ons*

today started off pretty crappy. not gonna lie. went to bed at 3 am. got up at 7 am. drove to Provo. endured a depressing critique on my painting.

after leaving said critique, i talked to my mom. she said all the motherly things to try and cheer me up, but to no avail. "i just can't paint," i told her.

that little saying got me thinking. got me thinking about something hilarious, actually. Nacho Libre. if you've never seen it, i don't know how we are friends, but i'll forgive you. anyways, there is a moment in Nacho Libre where Ignacio prays to God about his lack of wrestling skills. He asks, "Precious Father, why have you given me this desire to wrestle and then made me such a stinky warrior?"

well, this may be the only moment in the entirety of my life that I will say this, but i can relate to Nacho. Except my little prayer goes like this, "Precious Father, why have you given me this desire to create and then made me such a stinky painter?"

now i'm not looking for anyone's pity, i just wanted to let you in on my thought processes today. Nacho Libre makes everything better. now go eat some corn.

j{ush}t the beating of my own heart

the next tag question:

"if you could play any character in a totally legitimate/awesome rendition of any movie, musical, or play, who would it be and why? bonus: your pick of co-stars."

oh, that is difficult on so many levels.
level one: i can't act. so we must be pretending that i am amazing or something.
level two: i have too many movies/musicals/plays that i love. adore, even.
level three: i have to factor in my wardrobe.
level four: who am i kidding? i know exactly who i would pick.

i want to be kathleen kelly from you've got mail.
yes. i do.

and this is why.

i want that hair. i want those clothes. i want to own an adorable little shop. i want to live in new york city. i want to have hilarious conversations with my unknown husband-to-be about my unknown husband-to-be. i want to work with birdie, george, and christina. i want to date but not fall in love with frank navasky. i want to know so much about children's books that i cry at fox books. i want the song "dream" to play when i'm feeling blue. i want...sigh, i want to live in you've got mail.

as for the bonus, i could never change the co-stars. although...as much as i adore tom hanks, he isn't very dreamy. so i'd somehow find a dreamy version of tom hanks. and it would be perfect.
the end.

this all reminds me of a quote from another fabulous tom and meg favorite.
"you don't want to be in love. you want to be in love in a movie."

the REAL end.
